Is Money That Important?

Important Things in Our Lives Aside from Money

Money, much like oxygen, water, and electricity, is one of the basic necessities required in our lives. The adage that money cannot buy happiness is merely unacceptable to some, considering that not having ample of it can definitely make one’s life miserable. Obviously, it is difficult to survive without money as we need it to cover our basic expenses such as clothes, food, and shelter. Barack Obama, the former United States’ Prime Minister, once quoted, “Money is not the only answer, but it makes a different.” Despite that, we all have a different outlook on money. As for me, I firmly disagree that money is the most valuable thing in life. Though the fact that money is salient is indubitable, it is not everything. This is because there are myriads of other treasures that are just as precious as money, such as health, family, and friendship.

Predominantly, health is also indisputably as crucial as money. To clarify, staying mentally and physically healthy enable our bodies to steer clear of various forms of maladies and thus, will aid us to have a longer life expectancy. In every sphere of our lives, we will be able to form to the best of our abilities. For instance, as a student myself, I will surely be able to perform my very best in my studies if I am in the perk of my health. Contrastively, If I do not feel really well, it will be hard for me to pay attention in class. Besides, when we are physically fit, it gets reflected on our face. So, we will look attractive and start feeling good about ourselves! In the other words, staying healthy boosts our self-confidence. Therefore, the fact that health is as pivotal as money is inevitable.

Aside from that, it is without doubt that family is one of the most salient treasures in our lives. This is because our families are where we experience our colossal triumphs and deepest vulnerabilities. Also, families teach us how to embrace ourselves, bear one another’s burdens, find meaning in our live, and give purpose to others’ lives. Undeniably, families add colours to our lives. Spending quality time with them renders us feel appreciated and cherished- which are essential for our mental health. For example, going for a walk together with them while exchanging stories and experiences with each other are good for our mental development as it makes feel loved. Hence, it has been proven that family is just as valuable as money and we ought to cherish it. As the Late Princess Diana of Wales once quoted, “Family is the most important thing in the world.”

In addition to the above point, one of the most precious treasures that we can never purchase in this realm is friendship. Friends, the ‘creatures’ we do not share a drop of blood with, yet hold the closest spot in our hearts, have massive contributions in shaping us who we are as individuals. These “siblings from different parents” have miscellaneous importance which are just, indecipherable. To exemplify, friend are the ones who are always there to boost our confidence, through the most nerve-wrecking moments of our lives. There are times when we will doubt ourselves, but our friends will never do so. Also, friends are always willing to lend us their ears when we really need them. To portray, there are times when we feel like ranting and whinging about something to our friends. By doing so, we will be able to lighten our inner burdens. Moreover, friend lend their shoulders to us to cry on. They provide us their loving arms that wrap us away from our harsh times. Thus, friendship is just as paramount as money and without it, life would unimaginably be lacklustre.

Despite all those precious treasures, it is no doubt that money is just as important as them. This is because money enables us to be independent. With the aid of money, we do not have to rely on others to survive as we are able to support ourselves financially. Being financially independent is so fundamental as we are free to indulge in the luxuries of lives without nay constraint. Also, it is true that “money can buy health.” To clarify, this is because we can maintain our health although we can never rule it. With modern health cares to increase human longevity, money helps amend our health. These include spending money on proper diet, working out in the gym, and going for regular check-ups to ensure our health is at its perk, and curb perilous illnesses before they strike us. In short, though money may not be the most salient thing in our lives, it compensates our health, family, and friendship.

All said and done, money is not the most valuable thing in life. Although its importance is inevitable, money is not everything. There is a plethora of other treasures that are just as paramount as money in our lives, such as health, family, and friendship. Therefore, we ought to cherish them as they are blessings that have been bestowed by The Almighty to make our lives more meaningful.
